Q. Being a native of Nebraska, tell us what brought you to Colorado.

A. I signed up for an Outward Bound course in the San Juans as a kid, and that experience pretty much sealed the deal.  I came back to Colorado for law school and have been here ever since.

Q. When and why did you decide you wanted to become a lawyer?

A. During college I interned for Senator Ben Nelson in D.C. He was an attorney and encouraged me to give law school a try.

Q. After being awarded the Jonathan B. Chase Fellowship during law school, you worked at the United Nations in The Hague. Please share more about that experience.

A. I worked on a defense team representing General Momčilo Perišić, the Chief of Staff of the Yugoslav Army before the U.N. International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He was ultimately acquitted of all charges, and the case set important precedent in international criminal law.

Q. How did your practice develop a focus on natural resources?

A. After completing a clerkship, I joined a boutique firm here in Denver that specialized in oil and gas.

Q. Who has been the biggest influence on your legal career?

A. Peter Bjork and Laura Lindley, who gave me my first “real” job after law school. I would not be here without them, and consider myself lucky to have learned from the best.

Q. What do you enjoy most about the practice of law?

A. Helping clients solve their complex and ever-changing problems is very rewarding.

Q. After residing in Colorado for over a decade, tell us your favorite aspects of living here.

A. Access to wilderness and the robust spirit of outdoor stewardship.

Q. Share with us your ideal Colorado weekend getaway.

A. Camping in the Gunnison National Forest and then a stop in Salida on the way home.

Q. What are your three most favorite activities outside of work?

A. Hiking, camping, and traveling with my family.

 Q. Tell us about an exciting trip you have coming up.

 A. My kids are still too young, but we’re hoping to hike the Colorado Trail with them when they are a bit older. We’ve done a few individual segments and are hoping that plants the seed.
